Mayhem to Overtake Rockville on October 4
Hundreds of Models & Photographers to Celebrate Studio Opening
Rockville, MD – One of the largest armies of beautiful women ever mobilized is about to invade Rockville, with one goal on their mind: creating mayhem - Model Mayhem!
More than 200 models – more than 150 photographers – and more than 20 make-up artists, body painters and stylists – have signed up for the Model Mayhem Extravaganza on Saturday, October 4th. The event will mark the official opening of the new Sly Horse Studio location at 12312 Wilkens Avenue. Named for one of the most popular websites serving the photographic community – http://www.modelmayhem.com/ – the extravaganza will be an all-day opportunity for models and photographers to network, view and critique each others’ work, and shoot in the new facility.
The largest such gathering to date, the Orlando Meet & Greet (Orlando, FL), drew 125 models and photographers.
“The digital revolution has made it possible for greater numbers of photo enthusiasts to affordably achieve professional-quality results, so the popularity of photography has skyrocketed,” says Hooker, who himself has been shooting for more than 25 years. “We think Sly Horse is the best-equipped studio around, but we’re a lot more than just a studio. We’re a community that brings models and photographers together so they can learn together, create great images and, sometimes, produce truly amazing works of art.”
Since it first opened in 2005, Sly Horse has become home to a community of more than 150 photographers. When its original studio started bursting at the seams, co-owner Kevin Hooker moved the operation a few blocks away – to a building that now houses two large, professionally equipped studios, a separate product photography studio and office and storage space for the shooters who shoot there. Hooker has done most of the construction work himself, with help from the studios’ users.
Models and photographers, from as far away as Hollywood, CA., Vancouver Canada and Austin, TX., have signed up to attend the Oct. 4 event. Also attending will be representatives of Penn Camera (web link), Pilot Imaging (web link) and Steve Bayles From Visual Technology So far and hope more to come.
“Our Oct. 4 Model Mayhem Extravaganza is shaping up to be the biggest and best one yet,” Hooker says. “And that’s our plan for Sly Horse Studio – to be the biggest, and the best.”
